Tiffen Introduces New Variable Neutral Density Filter

Tiffen, a maker of color and neutral density filters for photographers has now released a variable neutral density filter.  This VND filter will provide 2 to 8 stops of light control in a single ND filter.  This filter works similar to a polarizer in that rotating the filter will cause a variation of the amount of light restricted.  This filter will eilminate the need for filter stacking when shooting long exposures or when using wide apertures in bright light.  You can read Tiffen’s PDF spec sheet by clicking this link.  The filter is currently retailing at B&H photo for approximately $190 and is only currently available in a 77mm filter size.

Pretty cool, I dont think I would ever have a need for one but I am sure there will be a lot of people that do. I just dont shoot landscapes and it seems like you would want a filter like this for that type of photography.
