If you follow along in the forum here at Camera Light & Lens you know I’m a fan of Corel’s photo editing software “Paint Shop Pro Photo”. I used Paint Shop Pro for years before moving to Photoshop and then eventually Lightroom by Adobe. After learning how to use Lightroom and Photoshop for my purposes via some free tutorials, various NAPP videos, and a subscription to the Kelby Training site, I found that I probably could have done most if not all the same editing using Corel’s Paint Shop Pro Photo. Dont get me wrong. I’m not bashing Adobe at all. Photoshop and Lightroom are wonderful software packages and I’m currently hooked. I don’t see me dumping them anytime soon. Continue reading
It was unusually warm here today. As I write this it’s about 56 degrees F outside. I took advantage of the weather and used the afternoon to replace the front brake pads and rotors on my aging Ford Explorer. Its 10 years old and has served me well over the years. I also changed the oil today. It was nice being outside in just s sweatshirt and jeans. In contrast, two days ago it was 17 degrees F outside. What a contrast.
After I was done cleaning up I dropped the used oil off at a recycle center and then stopped over to see some friends. They recently moved into a new home. Out with the old and in with the new. Another contrast. I left there and drove home. I parked out in front of my house and noticed the moon very visible in the last moments of daylight. The sun was setting, warm light on the trees, and the brightness of the moon… another contrast. So, out came the K-5, my Sigma 300mm f2.8 and the tripod. Here is the result. I hope you like it.
Have you ever wanted to see the Sistine Chapel and all that artwork that adorns the walls and ceiling? Paintings by Domenico Ghirlandaio, Sandro Botticelli, Pietro Perugino, Cosimo Roselli fill the walls, and the ceiling painted by Michelangelo surely is a sight to behold. Traveling to Vatican City is something that not many of us will actually get to do and even if you were lucky enough to get to Vatican City, the crowds would surely be exhausting. So what does the average person do to see this wonder? You take a virtual tour of course! Thanks to the people at Villanova University you can now take a virtual tour of the Sistine Chapel and see all the artwork on the walls and ceiling in the comfort of your home. Click this link to check it out! Sistine Chapel Virtual Tour. (Click your mouse button and drag to pan around the image)
Yesterday, I went on a bit of a road trip to Strasburg, PA. I was talking to a friend of mine, Rob, who was telling me he was a pretty big “Rail Fan”. He is fairly obsessed with old-time steam engine trains. He even has a you tube channel dedicated to his hobby. You can find it at this link. Today I took a trip with Rob out to Strasburg, Pennsylvania to take some photos. The countryside is amazing. There are rolling hills dotted with countless farms and of course, trains. There is even a motel where all the rooms are Caboose Cars. If you get a change to visit this area I would highly recommend it! I even updated the banner photo with a shot from this trip. If you want to see more you can find a few more photos in the forum at this link.
To all who read my blog. Merry Christmas! And have a safe and happy holiday season!
In a random act of violence, Police Officer Deriek W. Crouse, of the Virginia Tech Police Department, was shot and killed while sitting in his police car. While many people think of police officers as just “the police”, Officer Crouse was married with 5 children. His death leaves his wife a widow and his children fatherless just a few short weeks before Christmas. Students at VA Tech are collecting for the Crouse Family. Please see the link below. Thank you all and Merry Christmas.
